 Post subject: Steam and Pex
Posted: Fri Mar 29, 2013 10:43 pm

This happen about a month ago....

These 1" pex pipes was off a boaster boiler for commercial dishwashers... the pex started about 30 ft from the boiler....

It just so happen that the high limit failed and the boaster would go right up in temperature producing steam ... in about 3 minutes the pipe burst .... sending steam every where...

had to replace the high limit on this boaster...

Fried over 1000 pieces of fish tonight!
Unfortunately profits were very low this year! I say every year we should skip the fish fry and pass a hat to the firefighters we all throw in 20 bucks, take the night off we'd make more money!
Our department used to throw a large dinner dance (quit that in the 70's) we'd send out a mailing selling tickets...
After the hall rental, food caterers, paying the band, providing decorations, drink setups (it was byob)...

We'd make a little money...

Then we started no dance mailing out for donations and the money response was about the same with a whole lot less in expenses...

In our department the fire companies owned the land and the fire houses, the town owned the equipment parked in our firehouses, these donations paid for the operating expenses of the firehouses...

No rule saying you hafta put out politician's fires, is there?
We've been know to let a flaming azzole burn...

Actually our department was a rather large one with somewhere between 150 - 200 members throughout the years, when a politician screwed up the usually knew very well that they had when we showed up at a town meeting...

Sometimes with comical results like the night we filled the meeting in the high school to capacity and the flustered mayor became deeply concerned about our fire trucks parked outside the high school in the fire lane... :?

This guy was a former School Principal so we can just be glad that he was no longer responsible for educating our children...

The Snickers were abundant when he was asked where they should be parked instead...
So the fire department could have access to the school if there was a fire...
Ummm We're here dude...

Greenlee offers the same style, but with better quality magnets, check your local electrical supply.

Just about everything Greenlee makes is top quality, good call.

Is it AC or DC that only runs downhill?

Or am I missing something here? Why would an electrician need a grade level?

Because if you put your conduit next to my perfectly graded 1/8" per foot sewer you want it to match. :ha :ha
I don't use a level...
I just eyeball it off Sparky's conduit...
He used a Greenlee level so we're good....

Post subject: Beware of the Big Show
Posted: Sun Mar 31, 2013 8:54 am

Another thread .. I am pulling over here that I started

Some time ago I got caught up in the big show.

It all came back last night as I sat at my buddy mechanic garage having couple of beers.

He just started his buisness having just retired from his job.

We were talking about buisness in general and I told him about the big show.

Well back about 15 years ago a guy came into town in a big SUV and dressed like he was a millionaire. He said he was a contractor and was going to take our town by storm and asked if I would do the plumbing and hvac for him.

Back then every employee of his had a new truck and they all had cell phones. Cell phones up here were costly to have and operate at that time and it looked like this guy was rolling in it.

Even the lumber yard and carpet place all fell for the big show.

Well he started with one house and by the time I was just finnished he had two more for me to start. That was fine I got paid for one and had two more to do.

When I was done those two he had 4 more on the go. Well I got paid for the two and started the other four.

This went on for some time until he had me at 16 new homes at one given time.

He also had his employees buying all the houses and was getting the money from the bank.

At the end I was on the hook for 16 homes that had already changed hands and never recieved payment.

He had me for over 70K and the lumber yard for over 200K and the carpet store for over 90K.

What a mess and a hard lesson learned as nobody got paid but him.

He packed it up and moved out of town.

Beware of the Big Show

Amazing things happen when some of the most prolific posters on a forum decide that it no longer meets their needs and a suitable alternative is found...

Thanks Old School for providing that place... :salute

I have one of the wireless ones and it keeps my Bassett Hound at home without fail, unless I let the batteries in the collar die for too long.

Growing up, we had one of the buried wire type, also for a Bassett. First it worked, then he figured out that if he ran real fast and bawled really loud he could get across if he was desperate enough. Then he got to the point he could do it without yelling. Next he progressed to crossing the line with lowered ears, a guilty look, and a slight increase in pace. The last time we saw him cross he sauntered nonchalantly across while his legs quivered from the electrical shock. Eventually he never returned home.

 Post subject: Fireman
Posted: Fri Apr 05, 2013 5:07 pm

One dark night outside a small town in Minnesota , a fire
started inside the local chemical plant and in a blink of
an eye it exploded into massive flames. The alarm went
out to all the fire departments for miles around.

When the volunteer fire fighters appeared on the scene,
the chemical company president rushed to the fire chief
and said, "All our secret formulas are in the vault in
the center of the plant. They must be saved. I will give
$50,000 to the fire department that brings them out
intact."

But the roaring flames held the firefighters off.

Soon more fire departments had to be called in as the
situation became desperate. As the firemen arrived, the president
shouted out that the offer was now $100,000 to the fire
department who could bring out the company's secret
files.

From the distance, a lone siren was heard as another fire
truck came into sight. It was the nearby Norwegian rural
township volunteer fire company composed mainly of
Norwegians over the age of 65. To everyone's amazement,
that little run-down fire engine roared right past all the
newer sleek engines that were parked outside the plant.

Without even slowing down it drove straight into the
middle of the inferno. Outside, the other firemen watched as the
Norwegian old timers jumped off right in the middle of the
fire fought it back on all sides. It was a performance
and effort never seen before.

Within a short time, the Norske old timers had
extinguished the fire and had saved the secret formulas. The
grateful chemical company president announced that for such a
superhuman feat he was upping the reward to $200,000, and walked
over to personally thank each of the brave fire fighters.

The local TV news reporter rushed in to capture the event
on film, asking their chief, "What are you going to do with all
that money?"

"Vell," said Ole Larsen, the 70-year-old fire chief, "Da
first thing ve gonna do is fix da brakes on dat focking
truck!"

Well, looks like you are still alive so I'll hold the roses.

I think the damage I did to my knee is what's going to take the longest to heal. I'm scheduled to go in on Sunday and have it drained again. They drained 14oz of fluid out of it last night and its swollen right back up to where it was yesterday. Having your knee drained hurts like a MF'r, btw.

I'm glad that dipshit didn't pm me. Tell him you met him at a Harley rally. You walked in on him blowing some guy in the porta John. Then remind him he needs to lock the door next time.
