Gotta customer, young couple first house, very nice people. I've already done quite a bit of work for them as the husband has no mechanical aptitude but wants to score a few point with the wife by installing a new bathroom faucet. He called today at 203 pm....it's now 905 pm and he's still on it. I'm walking him through it best I can and hopes he succeeds. I just wonder how long can this take?

Give it up, you have no mechanical skills. I will pay you to push a pencil or whatever you do and you pay me to plumb!

He hasn't got there yet. I really want him to get this. You lose all kind of Man points when you can't handle tools. He even called me asking what kind of channel locks are good to buy. This just can't look good in front of the wif.

My thought is for a faucet. After 8 hrs still not done your man points with the wife are already gone.. She gave up on you at least 6 hours ago. Send her shopping, call the plumber BAM done when she gets back and plumbers gone. But he has already lost.

I have a good friend that is similar to this fella'. It's a combination of things.

Lower mechanical ability. Sometimes I don't buy this. Lower mechanical ability can often be overcome with determination and experience.
Low determination.
Low experience.
Low confidence.

Add them all up, and you end up with a toilet setting in it's space at a 30 degree angle leaking in two places after 4 hours.

I made a deal with the person I know. I put them in the truck for about half a day as my helper. Load this or that, straighten this or that, bring these tools & clean that up.

And I changed his toilet out. He watched and afterwards said "I'm glad I didn't try to do this..."
