Don't use them. Nothing but trouble.

Just yesterday went and camera inspected a line that is backing up every so often in an assisted living facility. Of course, I had to cable it to clear the line so that I could see, and pulled back a couple of wipes. But when I got the camera back into the area where the clog was, there was a double wye. This is the same area where the line has clogged every time. Had to use a trick to get the camera to go the correct direction, it kept wanting to head up the other branch. Easy to see how stuff would tend to do the same, and cause clogs.

And that is not the first time I have seen problems from double fittings.

Double fittings are not designed for horizontal installation. And, some aren't designed for vertical waste either.

In my experience, 99.9% of the time there is another way to do the rough other than a double fitting. I can't speak for other areas, but when a double fitting is used here it's often someone that has never done anything but a rough-in or they only know to follow commercial blueprints.

Double wyes are legal on the horizontal here. And I thought they were great until I started sticking cameras in drains.

And don’t think your cable won’t go across a double wye.

Ive never really ran across many, once in a while on double lavatory sinks.

Untill yesterday, at a medical building with a dentist office. With a stopped up sewer. Without an outside cleanout.

Pulled a toilet to clear the drain, and some lazy ass fat ass plumber used a 3" copper cross, below the floor, in a stack, to catch back to back toilets. There is an open basement below.

Had to pull the plug in the basement. fortunately there was a sump pit below the plug. Most of it ended up in there.

He is getting a brand new shiny 2 way tee, outside, in his parking lot, tomorrow morning. I told him if we don't put an outside cleanout in, don't call me ever again.

Figure 5

There are quite a few other figure fittings, but these are the ones used for back to back installations.

Better than a sancross, but a cable will still jump those.
